The TANZRESIDENZ has developed into a unique research and production location for dance professionals in Cologne. It was initiated by ZAIK (Center for Exchange and Innovation Cologne 2014 – 2019) under the direction of Michael Maurissens and Douglas Bateman. In 2020, the dance artist Silvia Ehnis Perez Duarte, artistic co-director of TachoTinta, took over the curation of the residency program, developed the current concept of TANZRESIDENZ, and continues to lead the program today.
Contents
The TANZRESIDENZ is a place for nuances and offers a fluid but trustworthy space where dance artists at various stages of their artistic biography can take risks and explore their own path to artistic excellence. The program is primarily aimed at dance professionals from Cologne and NRW. Through our cooperation partners, it also invites dance professionals from abroad and is open to interdisciplinary proposals in which the body, movement, and choreographic perspective play a significant role.
The residencies include a subsidized rehearsal space for two to eight weeks as well as the possibility for exchange formats, previews, and showings to network with other artists and build their own audience. Dance artists with great potential often start their artistic careers with us and find an engaged partner in us.

SELECTION PROCESS & APPLICATION
The TANZRESIDENZ offers two ways for artists to obtain a residency: firstly, through the calls for proposals that take place twice a year, and secondly, through our cooperation partners. The residency artists are selected by a guest jury from the Federal Network in collaboration with the artistic director Silvia Ehnis.
The next call for proposals will take place in September and will be visible under “News“.
RESIDENT ARTISTS
2025
This year’s residency artists were selected by a jury. Silvia Ehnis Perez Duarte made the selection together with Black Pearl de Almedia for the residencies in the first half of the year and with Tchekpo Dan Agbetou for the second half of the year. In addition, artists were invited through collaborations with the SoloDuo Festival, Zeit für Zirkus Festival, and the Suzanne Dellal Center from Tel Aviv.
As part of our exchange program with the Suzanne Dellal Center,
Hila Nachshonov has been invited as a guest choreographer for 2025.
