Painters, sculptors, media artists, musicians, designers, dancers, restorers, universities and other creative people in 86 studios. This is the Quartier am Hafen.
The first artists moved into their studios in the summer of 2010, when the former industrial hall in Cologne-Poll was converted into a professional workplace. The project was initiated by Andreas Schmitz (Westwerk Immobilien), who financed the purchase of the hall and the extensive renovation. As a public partner, the city of Cologne subsidizes almost half of the studios.
The goal of Quartier am Hafen is to sustainably ease the studio situation in Cologne and to establish itself as a pioneering creative hub in the long term. It sees itself as a place for interdisciplinary exchange and opens its Q18 exhibition space four times a year with sponsored exhibitions by external artists for the public. The vernissages and finissages are linked to the presentations of the dance residencies that Quartier am Hafen awards to dance artists from the independent dance scene.
In addition, the artists of Quartier am Hafen present their work there in their own exhibitions. Readings, presentations and panel discussions take place several times a year.
Quartier am Hafen has been a participating venue in Cologne’s Museum Night since 2014.
In 2019, Quartier am Hafen opened its own festival, The Artists Are Present, with 99 participating artists.

Studio Type 0.1
Ground floor, approx. 50 sqm / This studio type is on the ground floor and has a size of approx. 50 sqm (approx. 5 × 10 m). The ceiling height is 3.70 m, the door height 2.50 m. The windows, measuring 6 sqm, face west. Rent from €330 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €115.
Studio Type 0.2
Ground floor, approx. 90–100 sqm with garden / This studio type is on the ground floor and has a size of 90 to 135 sqm (approx. 6 × 16 m). The ceiling height is 3.70 m, the door height 2.50 m. The garden with a small staircase has a size of approx. 30 sqm. Windows and balcony door with an area of 10 sqm face north or south. Rent from €670 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €238.
Studio Type 1.1
1st floor, approx. 50 sqm / This studio type is on the first floor and has a size of 50 to 65 sqm (approx. 5 × 10 m). The ceiling height is 3.70 m, the door height 2.50 m. The windows, measuring 5.5–6 sqm, face west or east. Rent from €300 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €117.
Studio Type 1.2
1st floor, approx. 90 sqm / This studio type is on the first floor and has a size of 90 to 160 sqm (approx. 6 × 16 m). The ceiling height is 3.70 m, the door height 2.50 m. The windows with an area of 7–8 sqm face north or south. Rent from €480 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €205.
Studio Type 2.1
2nd floor, approx. 50 sqm / This studio type is on the second floor and has a size of approx. 50 sqm (approx. 5 × 10 m). The ceiling height is 2.60 m, the door height 2.10 m. The windows, measuring 4.6 sqm, face west or east. Rent from €260 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €110.
Studio Type 2.2
2nd floor, approx. 130 / 165 sqm, maisonette / This studio type comprises two floors. Access to the studio is possible via both floors, the larger door height is 2.50m. The room on the second floor has an area of 90 sqm and a ceiling height of 2.60 m. The room on the third floor has an area of 40 / 75 sqm and a ceiling height of 3.70–4.50 m. An internal staircase connects the two floors and creates an air space of up to 7 meters high. The large polycarbonate skylights face north or south. Rent from €670 / 890 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €290 / 380.
Studio Type 3
3rd floor, approx. 70–80 sqm / This studio type is on the third floor and has a size of 70-80 sqm. The ceiling height is between 3.10 and 5.00 m, the door height is 2.00 m. The windows face west or east. Rent from €440 net plus VAT. Advance payment for additional costs €170.
