Our exchange formats

Depending on what kind of exchange would be beneficial for the respective artistic process, open rehearsals, showings or workshops on a small scale can take place.
Selection process
The criteria for selection are the artistic vision, the intention for the residency, the possibilities to develop a connection with the house, the viability of the project in our space, and the thorough application.
A key consideration in the selection process is to invite a balanced programme that encompasses a variety of themes and intentions, while also supporting artists at different stages of their careers. Artists in the early stages of their careers are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are particularly interested in the following:
- What themes or intentions do you want to explore during a residency? And what would you like to work on concretely during the residency?
- At what stage of your artistic career are you currently, and how does this project relate to that moment in your development?
- If your project is part of a larger process or consists of several phases, which specific part would you like to develop during your time at Quartier am Hafen?
For this open call, we prioritise artists and groups who are based in Cologne. However, exceptions may be made if the residency is part of a collaboration with is part of a collaboration with local artists, dance festivals, or venues in the city.
Susan Schubert and Silvia Ehnis Perez Duarte will make the selection for the next season. The decision will be communicated at the beginning of May 2026.
IMPORTANT NOTES
TANZRESIDENZ does not provide technical support.
For this open call, Quartier am Hafen does not cover travel, accommodation, or production costs.
At TANZRESIDENZ, the artistic process is at the heart of the residency experience. Residents are given the time and conditions to explore, experiment and develop their work, free from the pressure to produce immediate outcomes. However, we do expect our residents to take responsibility for any residuals and traces left by their creative process in the space. If your creative process produces residual materials, marks or rubbish, you are expected to clean up and reset the space.
