Die amerikanischen Künstlerinnnen Kim Collmer und Jennifer Hope Davy stellen am Samstag, 10. Dezember ab 17 Uhr im Ausstellungsraum Q18 2 Arbeiten vor:

In ‚Conquering Place‘ untersucht Kim Collmer die militärische Präsenz der USA in Deutschland und stellt die kulturellen Trümmer dar, die von der schwindenden Besetzung der US-Streitkräfte übrig geblieben sind. Mit Collagen, aufgefundenen und persönlichen Fotos und Videos präsentiert die Künstlerin eine intime Sichtweise auf eine verborgene und sehr dominante Subkultur. Inspiriert durch ihre eigene Geschichte als US-Bürgerin, die im Militär-Umfeld aufwuchs, konzentriert sich diese Arbeit auf die Angehörigen und Zivilbevölkerung, die einen unmittelbaren Bezug zu den deutsch-amerikanischen Beziehungen haben.

[Given, If, Then] von Jennifer Hope Davy ist eine Serie von vierunddreißig Bilddrucken, die eine unbeabsichtigte Zeitspanne von zwölf Jahren umfassen und ein Buch, das ursprünglich Jeremy Fernando in Zusammenarbeit mit Julia Hölzl und Jennifer Hope Davy konzipiert hat. [Given, If, Then], versucht, eine Möglichkeit des Lesens durch eine Reihe von Lesungen zu konzipieren.

Kim Collmer and Jennifer Hope Davy will present two separate, though complimentary, projects at the Quartier am Hafen with a special opening December 10. Both artists will be present. 

Collmer’s project, Conquering Place, examines US military presence in Germany, portraying the cultural debris left over from the dwindling occupation of the US Armed Forces. Using collage, found and personal photos and video, the artist presents an intimate viewpoint of what is both a hidden and very dominant subculture. Inspired by her own history as a US civilian growing up in the military, this body of work focusing on the dependents and civilians impacted by the US-German relationship. 

[Given, If, Then], by Jennifer Hope Davy, is a series of thirty-four prints spanning an unintentional period of twelve years, and a book initially conceived by Jeremy Fernando in collaboration with Julia Hölzl and Jennifer Hope Davy. As a project, [Given, If, Then], attempts to conceive a possibility of reading, through a set of readings: reading being understood as the relation to an Other that occurs prior to any semantic or formal identification, and, therefore, prior to any attempt at assimilating, or appropriating, what is being read to the one who reads. As such, it is an encounter with an indeterminable Other—an unconditional relation, and thus a relation to no fixed object of relation.
